Vintage Ganesh Wall Hanging with flowers, bicycles and clocks.

£380

This piece would look beautiful as a wall hanging in any setting but could also add a dash of colour to an alcove, bookcase, window or doorway. It would also make a vibrant addition above a double bed. A traditional vintage Ganesh door hanging, providing an auspicious welcome and the blessings of Ganesh, the elephant-headed God of good fortune and happiness. On either side of Ganesh is Lakshmi the goddess of wealth sitting upon a lotus blossom and Lord Krishna, the flute playing Hindu god and protector of cows in addition with brightly coloured peacocks, elephant birds, trees, clocks and bicycles.  Flowers border the toran and in addition there are Hindu symbols of peace. Embroidered sisha mirror work is scattered across the whole piece. The top and around the inner arch is intricately stitched with a string of chilli peppers, finished off by a bright blue trim. Good  condition with a few discolourations  due to age. Made by the farming (Kanbi) communities of Saurashtra. Circa 1950.
