Vintage Ganesh Wall hanging with Flowers and Animals

£360

This piece would look beautiful as a wall hanging in any setting but could also add a dash of colour to an alcove, bookcase, window or doorway. It would also make a vibrant addition above a double bed. A traditional vintage Ganesh door hanging, providing an auspicious welcome and the blessings of Ganesh, the elephant-headed God of good fortune and happiness. Two figures dance on either side of Ganesh and elsewhere there is Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and purity, sitting on her outs flower.. Brightly coloured  embroidered silk flowers, peacocks, antelope, leopards, elephants, birds, camels and horses decorate the rest of the toran, including the Lord Krishna as a baby. Flowers  make a border around the piece and embroidered mirror work is scattered across the whole piece and in addition there are Hindu symbols of peace. Blue trim and finished off by a small multicoloured red frill. This toran is exceptionally fine with unusual depictions of animals and gods.  Excellent condition. Made by the farming (Kanbi) communities of Saurashtra. Circa 1960.
