Indigo Dyeing

Indigo Dyeing is an ancient process going back thousands of years that has recently been revived in India. The dye is made from a natural plant and the process is more complex than normal due to the different stages of work involved.

The depth of colour depends on the number of ‘dips’ the fabric has been put through.

The dye is naturally blue however different colours can be created by introducing other ingredients.

Patterns can be created in the fabric by block printing using a dye resistant mud or paste.
