Vintage Ganesh Door hanging with Red Edge
This piece would look beautiful as a wall hanging in any setting but could also add a dash of colour to an alcove, bookcase, window or doorway. It would also make a vibrant addition to a child’s bedroom. A traditional vintage Ganesh door hanging, providing an auspicious welcome and the blessings of Ganesh, the elephant-headed God of good fortune and happiness. At his feet sits Krauncha, his mouse, and on either side he is flanked by Nandi, the sacred cow of Krishna, who stands next to her playing his flute. Two blossoms fill each corner, below which peacocks, parrots and the ancient symbols of fertility and om signs are delicately stitched. Underneath, on either side stands Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth upon her lotus blossom. The border is intricately stitched with colourful flowers and leaves. It has a red trim with 3 cotton hanging loops. Made by the farming (Kanbi) communities of Saurashtra. Good condition with a few small discolourations due to age. Circa 1960.
