Vintage Ganesh Door hanging with Multi Coloured Border and Frill
This piece would look beautiful as a wall hanging in any setting but could also add a dash of colour to an alcove, bookcase, window or doorway. It would also make a vibrant addition above a double bed. A traditional vintage Ganesh door hanging, providing an auspicious welcome and the blessings of Ganesh, the elephant-headed God of good fortune and happiness. On either side of Ganesh sits Krauncha, his mouse and two peacocks. Lord Krishna plays his flute to two sacred cows amongst flowers, birds under a bright sun. The lower part of the toran features elephants, antelopes, brightly coloured flowers and parrots. The inner arch is edged by a multi coloured frill and embroidered patterns. The outer edge is made from coloured bands of escalloped trim. There are cotton hanging loops on all three edges, with two missing on the top edge. Excellent condition with a samll discolouration on the left hand side due to age. Made by the farming (Kanbi) communities of Saurashtra. Circa 1960.
