Vintage Ceremonial Wedding Canopy

A unique and rare ceremonial wedding chandarvo (canopy). Beautifully embroidered in colourful silks using open chainstitch, close herringbone stitch and shisha mirrorwork onto unbleached canvas depicting elephants, peacocks and flowers The images used in the canopy are all highy symbolic and auspicious. The circles of flowers are symbolic of the sun and each flower has eight petals to represent prosperity and material wealth. This piece would be a wonderful edition to any room in the house. Made by the Boricha Ahir people, Saurashtra, Gujurat. Excellent condition for its age but there is a small stain, and some lose stitching. Circa 1970.
