Vintage Ganesh Toran Doorhanging With Red Edge And Multicoloured Frill
A traditional vintage Ganesh door hanging, providing an auspicious welcome and the blessings of Ganesh, the elephant-headed God of good fortune and happiness. He is flanked by palm trees, Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth seated in a lotus blossom, and butter churners. It is decorated with horses, parrots and peacocks, finished with a flower border. It has a red trim edge around the oputside and a colourful frill edge on the inner edge. There are 3 hanging loops. It has been beautfully embroidered in silk thread and has very few signs of its age, just some minor colour runs and one small stain. Made by the farming (Kanbi) communities of Saurashtra. c1960.
