Vintage Ganesh Toran Doorhanging With Blue Edge And Multicoloured Frill


A traditional vintage Ganesh door hanging, providing an auspicious welcome and the blessings of Ganesh, the elephant-headed God of good fortune and happiness. He is flanked by Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth seated in a lotus blossom, elephants. It is decorated in silk thread, using an unusual interlinked stitch, with various birds and animals and finished with an embroidered border, a blue trim and a multi-coloured frill. There are diffuse stains across the background and some darker patches in a few places whiuch reflect the age of the piece. It has 3 cotton hanging loops. Made by the farming (Kanbi) communities of Saurashtra. c1960.
